Frank Lampard hails Christian Pulisic, likens him to Eden Hazard

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said that Christian Pulisic has similarities to former Blues star Eden Hazard. The USA international has experienced a mixed debut season with the west London giants but he has picked up his form since the restart after the coronavirus shutdown. Pulisic found the back of the net in the wins over Aston Villa and Manchester City earlier last month and he has since won penalties against the likes of West Ham United and Watford.

In this period, he has caught the eye with his direct running and quick dribbling in the box and that has outscored a number of defenders. Pulisic endured a difficult beginning to the year as he struggled with a nagging adductor injury, but he has come into his own of late in the club’s pursuit of Champions League football.

Lampard told Sky Sports: “Eden did it here – sensational in what he did. I don’t want to make that comparison quite, but I also don’t want to take away from Christian, what he’s showing now is a real natural ability. A balance and the speed at which he can dribble with the ball, the next stage for him is more end product, more goals and more assists. Since the restart he’s already showing that and he looks great. He had injury problems this year, but he’s a good one, a really good one – I’m really happy with him.”

The Blues faced a must-win game against Watford to reclaim the fourth spot ahead of Manchester United and they managed to do so with a comfortable 3-0 win. Still, they have plenty of work to do over the remaining five matches, given they are just two points ahead of the Red Devils in the race for the final Champions League position. Lampard’s side have to face Sheffield United, Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers during the remaining five games of the season.
